On September 15th, 2020, Dr. Dan Polatsch was inducted as the newest President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand (NYSSH). Congratulations to Dr. Polatsch on this well deserved honor. The NYSSH is one of the largest hand organizations in the United States. It was organized in the early 1960’s when a small group of surgeons met for dinner to develop professional contact among like-minded individuals in an informal social setting. As such it was the first regional hand surgery society of its kind and was the prototype for other groups across the country. It has grown to its present size of over 130 members and still embodies the purpose of the founding members in promoting camaraderie and exchange of knowledge amongst hand surgeons. Article II of the Society’s Constitution states its purpose with its mission statement:
“To promote and foster the highest standards of surgery of the hand and to promote education, training and research related to surgery of the hand.”
